The American Kennel Club Hunt Test Program is designed to help amateur trainers compete with professionals by passing or qualifying if their dog meets the standard for that category. There are three different formats, Junior, Senior, and Master.
In the Junior the dog may come to the “line” with a flat collar and on lead. He or she will complete two series of two single marked retrieves each, one on land and one in the water. To get the title of Junior Hunter he or she must qualify at four separate events.
In the Senior the dog must come to the line with no collar or lead. He or she will complete two series of a double mark and blind. In one of the series he or she must “honor” or sit quietly while another dog completes the retrieve. He or she is allowed one controlled break. The handler must come to the line holding and aiming a gun, just as in a real hunting situation.
Below are some videos of AKC Hunt Tests. In some I and Rebel are competing. When this is the case the person taking the video may or may not explain what is happening. In others I am the one taking the video and providing commentary.
